A roof over your head while you are looking for a home
A question that often comes up is "Where do I stay while I'm looking for a home?" and indeed it does seem a bit of a catch-22. But in fact there are a number of options, depending on your budget.
Hotel
1. For those of you on a company package that includes temporary accommodation compensation, the choice is easy, a hotel. When I first arrived here, I decided to stay in a hotel because a hotel room is quite a suitable choice if you intend to find a home quite quickly, say a few weeks at most. The benefits of a hotel are obvious, but it is a somewhat impersonal - and costly - solution.
Service apartment
2. For the longer term, up to several months or even a year, I recommend a service apartment. These are akin to a hotel room when it comes to service levels such as housekeeping staff to maintain the rooms. A service apartment tends to be less costly than a hotel room however, yet you'll receive more bang for your buck, i.e. more space, more privacy and more freedom than in a typical hotel room. And because service apartments come with fully equipped kitchen facilities, electrical conveniences like washing machines etc, they are ideal for families too.

Rent-a-room
3. If you are looking for a basic budget solution, there are countless rooms available in Singapore for short-term rent.
